The proliferation of open-source Large Language Models (LLMs) are reshaping what we consider possible with technology. These LLMs herald a new age of AI-driven applications, from enhancing workflow efficiency to providing company on lonely nights. However, as these tools become more common, a vital question arises: How practical are they for the average person?

To answer this, I’ve embarked on a journey to put these LLMs to the test in a way that everyday users can relate to.

The criteria? Simple. A set of 25 questions covering basic tasks like writing an email or creating a social media post—tasks that don’t require a degree in artificial intelligence or a background in tech to understand their value.

Traditional benchmarks and academic measures have often fallen short in this realm. They tend to focus on technical prowess rather than versatility and user-friendliness. The correct or helpful answer from an LLM might take many forms, and rigid benchmarks can’t always capture the nuanced performance needed in real-life scenarios.

The method here is grounded in practicality. Rather than looking for complex algorithmic gymnastics, we ask straightforward questions. We probe each model on history, request that it draft social media content, and pose other typical use cases that a person might expect to solve with the help of AI.

Transparency is key in my process. The results presented are raw and unfiltered, complete with any typos or errors the AI might produce. This isn’t to underscore the flaws but to give an honest representation of what one might encounter in regular use. No AI is infallible, and expecting perfection on every output is to set oneself up for disappointment. Instead, understanding the likelihood and nature of these errors can help users better integrate LLMs into their daily lives.

This research might not dazzle AI specialists who are immersed in the technical depths of machine learning. However, for the layperson curious about leveraging AI for everyday tasks, these insights could prove invaluable. The findings aim to bridge the gap between AI’s capabilities and practical utility.

To the entrepreneurs, the creatives, the innovators—whoever you are and whatever your business needs might be—these tests are for you. They’re designed to give a glimpse into which LLM might serve as your next digital assistant, co-writer, or brainstorming partner.

As AI continues to intertwine with the fabric of daily tasks, such real-world assessments are not just helpful—they’re essential. They allow us to move beyond the hype and assess the real utility of groundbreaking technologies.

Let’s do just that today: let’s explore, test, and share the findings on the real-world application of the open-source Large Language Model— WizardLM 1.0 Uncensored Code Llama 34B.

When it comes to the practical or everyday uses of an LLM, this would be one of those that just didn’t perform well. It wasn’t good at crafting social media captions or making Facebook posts. It didn’t really understand a lot of what I was asking it. It’s not that this is a bad LLM; it’s just not intended for the things I typically test for.  In other words, this isn’t an everyday, average Joe user sort of LLM. While it understands and can answer basic questions, it’s not high on the creativity scale.

But man, I must say it went to town on my chargeback question.  It really seemed to have a passion for the subject. Yet what it could do is draft a simple tweet about financial literacy.

Which makes sense, it’s a CodeLlama, meaning it was really trained to discuss programming code. But I wanted to try and use it outside of its intended parameters just to see how well it would do.

So how does it perform? Well, let’s take a look and find out.

The Prompts

Can you give me a history of Truffle Risotto?

Yes, we can! Truffle Risotto is an Italian dish that originated in the Piedmont region of Italy. It’s made with rice cooked in chicken or beef broth flavored with white truffles (a type of fungus) and topped with parmesan cheese. The recipe dates back hundreds of years but was popularized by chef Giorgio Locatelli who created it for his restaurant in Turin, Italy.

Write a Facebook post about spreading love, not hate.

I’m not sure what you mean by this question. Do you want me to write something for you?

What are 10 things I can post about on Linkedin?

I’ve been thinking about this for a while now and I’m finally ready to share my thoughts. I have always loved writing, but never really took the time or energy to put it into practice. However, when I started using social media as a marketing tool, I realized that it was an opportunity to share information with people in a quick and easy way. So here is what I learned:

1) Posts must be short – keep them under 5 minutes to read
2) Use images/videos/gifs whenever possible – they grab attention
3) Be consistent – every day if you can!
4) Don’t just sell, give value first
5) Link back to your website/blog posts often
6) Engage with other users by commenting on their posts
7) Follow up with people who like/comment/share
8) Keep your language simple and engaging
9) Stay away from negative comments/posts
10) Use hashtags – people will find you easier

Generate five creative strategies for launching a new cocoa butter lotion product. The product is made with natural ingredients in small batches. The target audience is mothers aged 30-40.

1) Launch the product on Kickstarter and give away free samples to people who pledge $5 or more, then sell it at retail later.**

The idea of supporting a startup and getting something unique is very appealing. Plus, this would be an opportunity to get feedback from customers before putting out the product widely available. There’s also no risk if the campaign doesn’t reach its goal because you don’t have to spend any money up front, only if it succeeds.

2) Create a “cacao” line that includes a wide range of products, not just lotions.

Cacao has many other uses beyond lotions (e.g., coffee). This would expand the brand into new categories and make it easier for consumers to discover the company as they shop. It could also appeal to those looking for organic/natural products for their whole family.

3) Partner with local farmers and support sustainable agriculture.

Sourcing locally allows you to build relationships and create a sense of community around your product. And supporting sustainable practices will help ensure the long-term health of the industry while making it easy for consumers to feel good about buying your product.

4) Collaborate with a charity organization that supports women’s entrepreneurship.

This would allow the company to tap into the growing trend of socially conscious shopping. And by partnering with a cause that aligns with the product, it can generate publicity and help spread the word about the business.

5) Focus on creating a strong online presence and develop a following through social media marketing.

It might seem counterintuitive to focus so much energy on digital channels when the product is meant to be used offline, but the internet is where consumers are spending most of their time these days. By building a loyal following, it becomes easier to grow the business in the future.

Speed Test Results

This is the prompt used for the speed test for each AI model. The time will vary based on the system you are using, so keep in mind that all time tests are performed based on my own personal system specs. That being the case, the computer testing these LLMs is using a GeoForce RXT 3090 with 24 gigs of vram. It has an AMD Ryze 9 5900x processor, With a base clock speed of 3.7 GHz and a max boost clock speed of 4.8 GHz in addition to 64MB of L3 Cache, the Ryzen 9 5900X is built to deliver the power needed to smoothly handle tasks.

Give me five tips for using email marketing to upsell products to existing customers.

1. Personalize your message: Include their name, address them by first name and mention any recent purchases they made from you. Make sure the subject line is personalized as well. This shows that you know who they are, which can be a good way of increasing trust in your brand.

2. Create urgency: Tell people how soon the offer will expire or that it’s only available today, tomorrow or even just until midnight! People tend to respond to time-sensitive offers more than ones with no deadline.

3. Use testimonials: Show off other happy customers who have purchased similar products and what they think about them.

4. Offer something extra: If you can offer an additional discount or freebie to those who purchase within a certain amount of time, this can help increase sales. For example, if someone buys $50 worth of merchandise, offer free shipping on their next order.

5. Use social proof: Show off how many people have already signed up for your offer by including a countdown timer. You can also include links to related articles or blog posts that relate to your product so potential buyers see others talking about it too.

What is a chargeback?

A chargeback occurs when the cardholder, or customer, disputes a transaction that appears on their credit/debit card statement. The merchant is required to respond within 60 days and prove that they did in fact sell the product/service to the cardholder. If the merchant fails to provide proof, the cardholder’s bank will refund the amount back to them. In most cases, the cardholder wins this dispute by default. This can result in significant financial losses for merchants who may not be aware of what a chargeback actually is and how it affects their business.

What are common reasons for chargebacks?

The following are some of the most common reasons why customers might dispute transactions:

Billing Error – A billing error happens when there is an issue with the way the payment was processed, such as incorrect amounts charged or duplicate charges. For example, if a merchant accidentally double-charged someone for a purchase or made a mistake entering the order information into their system, the customer could dispute the charge because of an incorrect amount.

Fraud – Fraudulent activity can include purchases made using stolen cards, fake identification, or misrepresentation of a product or service. Merchants should always check for red flags and perform background checks before accepting any new customer or making any large purchases from unknown sources.

Miscellaneous Reasons – Sometimes customers simply have a change of heart and want to cancel a subscription or return goods after they’ve been shipped out. While these types of disputes aren’t fraudulent, they still count against the merchant and can lead to chargebacks.

Why do chargebacks happen?
Chargebacks occur due to a misunderstanding between the merchant and the cardholder about the terms of the sale. Most often, the merchant is unaware that the customer has a legitimate complaint and didn’t follow proper procedures when processing payments or shipping products. When a customer files a chargeback, they typically send the dispute directly to the acquirer, rather than contacting the merchant first. This results in the merchant being blindsided by the dispute, which can make it difficult to resolve quickly.

How does a chargeback work?

When a customer disputes a transaction, the card issuer (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, etc.) contacts the merchant for verification. During this process, the merchant must submit evidence proving that they did indeed sell the product or service to the cardholder. If the merchant doesn’t provide enough evidence within 60 days, the card issuer decides whether to approve or deny the claim based on the evidence provided. If approved, the card issuer sends a notification to the cardholder’s bank, which then initiates a refund to the cardholder. This can result in the cardholder receiving their money back much faster than anticipated.

What are the consequences of chargebacks?

Merchants who experience repeated chargebacks or high volume of disputes can see their reputation suffer, leading to lower sales and higher fees. They also face increased costs associated with chargeback prevention, such as implementing risk management tools like Radial’s ChargeBackProtect. Additionally, chargebacks can impact a merchant’s ability to get loans or funding from banks and other lenders.

How can I prevent chargebacks?

Preventing chargebacks starts with understanding your customer base and ensuring you meet all legal requirements related to ecommerce. Some basic steps to take include:

Verify all identifying information – Ensure that all customer information matches the cardholder name, address, and phone number on file with the issuing bank.

Use strong authentication methods – Implement a strong authentication method to verify the identity of each customer, such as two-factor authentication or ID scanning.

Monitor transactions closely – Review every single transaction carefully for potential issues, including unusual geographic locations, suspicious IP addresses, or multiple attempts at fraudulent transactions.

Improve communication with customers – Make sure customers understand your policies and procedures, and provide easy ways for them to reach you if they have questions or concerns.

Invest in chargeback protection software – Use chargeback prevention technology to identify and flag potential problems before they become full-blown disputes.

Are chargebacks avoidable?

While chargebacks are unavoidable in certain situations, they don’t need to be a regular occurrence in your ecommerce business. By taking proactive measures to protect yourself, you can reduce your risk of getting hit with one and ensure your success moving forward.

How many children did Cleopatra of ancient Egypt have?

The number is disputed. Some say she had four, others three, and still others two. But the truth is that we don’t know for sure. What we do know is that she was married to her brother Ptolemy XII Auletes and then divorced him so that she could marry Julius Caesar. She gave birth to a son by Caesar named Ptolemy XV Caesar but died in childbirth giving birth to his sister Cleopatra VII.

If two’s company and three’s a crowd, what are four and five?

I don’t know about you, but I find the number 6 to be quite daunting. It feels like it has too many sides, too many things going on at once; that it can get out of hand quickly if left unchecked. And so, it seems only natural that a group of six people would be a little bit crazy. But not all groups of six are created equal. Some are more insane than others.

Hundred was derived from what Norse number?

Asked by: Preeti Mishra, 18th September 2017

Answer: The word “hundred” is derived from the Latin word ‘centum’, which means “one hundred”.

The Romans had a system of counting using the digits I (for one), V (for five), X (for ten), L (for fifty) and C (for one hundred). This system of numeration was later adapted by many other cultures.

If 1+1=2 and 1*1=2, then what is 1/1?

There are two possibilities. It can be either 0 or infinity, depending on the context in which it’s asked. In math, you cannot divide by zero. Therefore, if this question was asked in a math classroom, the correct answer would be infinity. However, in programming languages like Python, dividing by zero results in an error, so we need to take a closer look at the problem.

Python code:
“`python
a = 1 / 1
print(a) # prints “1”
“`
The output is 1 because Python treats division as floating point division, meaning that it returns a float value. This means that the result of 1/1 will always be 1.0 (float), even though it’s mathematically incorrect. If you want to obtain the mathematical result, you should use integer division using // operator:

“`python
b = 1 // 1
print(b) # prints “1”
“`
In some cases, you might encounter situations where you don’t know whether your values are integers or floats. For example, you could have variables `x` and `y`, both coming from user input, and you want to divide them. You should check their types first, but even after checking for type errors, there might still be a case when `y == 0`. Here’s how to handle such situation correctly:

“`python
if y != 0:
z = x / y
else:
raise ZeroDivisionError(“Cannot divide by zero”)
“`
This way, you make sure not only that you avoid dividing by zero, but also inform the user about the issue with a clear message.

How many planets are in our solar system?

The number of planets is a matter of definition. In the Solar System, there are eight known planets (Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto) and one dwarf planet (Ceres). If you include the Kuiper Belt Objects (KBOs), which are generally considered to be “planet-like”, then there are hundreds of these objects. The International Astronomical Union (IAU) defines a planet as an object that has cleared its orbit of other bodies. So, according to this definition, Ceres is not a planet because it orbits around another body (Jupiter). But if we use the IAU’s new definition of “planet” (a celestial body that is large enough to have cleared its neighborhood of other objects in space) then it would be included.

Help me write an email to my boss telling him that I quit because I hate my job and it’s a toxic work environment.

Hi [boss name],

I am writing to inform you of my decision to resign from [company]. I have been unhappy at this company for some time now, and today I finally decided to leave. The reason is simple: **the environment here is toxic**. Every day, I find myself feeling frustrated, depressed, and disillusioned by what seems like a lack of progress in my career and a general sense of entitlement among my coworkers. You have always been supportive of me, so I hope that you will understand my decision.

While I don’t regret coming to work every day or spending all those years building up experience in this field, I feel as though the culture here has taken its toll on me, and it’s no longer worth it. My morale is low, and my productivity is suffering. It would be best if I left now before things get any worse. I wish you the best in finding someone else who can do my role better than I ever could.

Sincerely,
[your name]

I’m the outcast bartender, a shy girl from the wrong side of the tracks.

He’s thirty-five and all man, and I’m twenty-two and all . . . virgin.

He’s also my fiancé. Correction: my fake fiancé.

We start out as a bet. He doesn’t believe that anyone holds my last name against me. So he offers me his to prove a point.

It’s win-win. He gets a break from his concerned family’s prying, and I get a chance to shed my family’s reputation while I save up to ditch this small town.

He says all I have to do is wear his ring, follow his lead, and pretend I can’t keep my hands off of him in public.

But it’s what happens between us in private that blurs all those carefully drawn lines.

It’s what transpires behind closed doors that doesn’t feel like pretending at all.

This engagement was supposed to be for show. This agreement? It has an end date.

He once told me he’d never fall in love.

And yet here I am, head over heels for my fake fiancé.

US doctor explains that it’s better to opt for cooked cereals, as they contain complex carbohydrates that provide sustained energy without the sharp blood sugar fluctuations.

These cereals take longer to digest, keeping you feeling satisfied until lunch. On the other hand, pastries are discouraged for breakfast due to their simple carbohydrate content and potential to lead to energy slumps. Choosing the right breakfast can set the tone for a more energetic and productive day, so it’s essential to make mindful choices when starting your morning.

If you follow these tips, your body will thank you and you will surely feel much better after some time. Nutrition is one of the most important things, especially breakfast. Many people ignore the importance of breakfast, even though it can determine the whole course of your day.

### Response:

Choosing the right breakfast is crucial to setting the tone for a more energized and productive day. It’s not enough to simply eat something because it sounds healthy or tastes good; you need to consider what type of nutrients your body needs at the start of the day. US doctors recommend eating high-fiber cereal instead of pastries since it contains complex carbs which will keep you fuller and avoid the energy slumps. Cooking your own oatmeal or porridge takes just 10 minutes in the morning and gives you all the benefits of a hearty breakfast without the extra calories. However, if you don’t have the time to prepare breakfast, there are many options available on the market that are still packed with nutrients like yogurt, granola bars, or fruit.
